Monologo Crianza - Espagne

Monologo Crianza

Red Wine

Millésime

The weather which delivered the 2013 vintage was not at all typical. Very heavy rains and low temperatures were the main features of Spring, and this brought with it a delayed start to the vegetative cycle, creating major imbalances of ripeness from vineyard to vineyard, and within the different sub-zones of the denomination.

The end result was the latest harvest in the recent history of the Denomination, and one of the shortest in terms of quantity.

The fine weather which arrived in September and October was absolutely key, and allowed us to carry out a selective harvest, giving optimum quality in that fruit which we actually picked. The end result is a slightly modern and informal style of wine, as might be expected, but one which is rather attractive.

Vinification

Monologo2013 is a single varietal Tempranillo, which was aged in American and French oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting note

Garnet red in colour, star bright, of medium intensity.

Pleasant aromas of cocoa, coffee beans, coconut, pepper and cinnamon, giving way after a light swirl to a predominance of ripe red fruit.

Bright opening palate, great vitality and good balance between alcohol, acidity and structure. A sensation of ripe polished tannins.

Food pairing

The pleasure in drinking a wine like this is enhanced when it is taken with a plate of Ibérico ham, manchego cheese, wild mushrooms with scrambled eggs, barbecued lamb cutlets or a good dish of cod a la Riojana.

Serve between 16°C and 18°C.
